About AADAO & Cosmos Hub
Here’s some boilerplate copy for press use, providing a concise overview of the Cosmos Hub and Atom Accelerator DAO.
Use these descriptions to represent who we are and our impact within the Cosmos ecosystem.
Atom Accelerator DAO
Atom Accelerator DAO (AADAO) is a governance-mandated DAO of the Cosmos Hub. They have been formed and mandated to drive value for the Cosmos Hub & ATOM, supporting initiatives that either directly create economic impact or produce value that can drive its growth. From this, their current primary mandates are public grants & venture grants.
Atom Accelerator’s venture arm strategically invests in promising early-stage web3 founders and startups both within and outside of the Cosmos Hub’s ecosystem. As experts within the Cosmos ecosystem, Atom Accelerator offers expertise, guidance, and support while driving value toward ATOM.
In 2023, they deployed $3.8 million in grants to 39 recipients – resulting in, among other things – a $22m USD airdrop to the Community Pool, an AEZ Accelerator program to expand the AEZ, a successful hackathon with 42 project submissions bringing innovations to the AEZ – and many other key initiatives. Read about these in their 2023 Impact Report.
Atom Accelerator DAO Ventures
As of 2024, the Cosmos Hub provides venture funding in return for tokens and equity in promising early-stage web3 founders and startups both within and outside of the Cosmos Hub’s ecosystem. This strategy helps diversify the community’s holdings.
These venture funds are deployed through the Atom Accelerator DAO (AADAO), a governance-mandated DAO of the Cosmos Hub formed to drive value to the Hub through strategic fund deployment.
As experts within the Cosmos ecosystem, Atom Accelerator offers expertise, guidance, and support while driving value toward ATOM.
The Cosmos Hub
The Cosmos Hub is a pioneering blockchain, that gave birth to the Cosmos ecosystem and the modular Interchain Stack (aka Cosmos Stack).
Launched in 2019, the teams behind the Cosmos Hub conceptualized and funded the Interchain Stack, which today powers over 100 sovereign blockchains. Read the Cosmos whitepaper.
Today, the Cosmos Hub serves as a major economic, political and cultural center of the Cosmos ecosystem.
It continues to be the primary chain that funds public goods within the Cosmos ecosystem, is the largest liquidity exporter across the IBC-connected interchain ecosystem and through Interchain Security, the Cosmos Hub provides economic security to its Consumer Chains.
Interchain Security
Interchain Security (ICS) is a set of technologies the Cosmos Hub utilizes to provide economic security to its Consumer Chains.
Simplistically, it is the concept of one chain “providing security” to another chain, utilizing the IBC protocol for the implementation. “Providing security,” in simple terms, is when a chain forgoes having its independent validators and instead asks validators of another chain to validate its blocks.
The chain providing its validators and security is the “Provider Chain,” while the chain consuming/receiving the security is a “Consumer Chain.”
The Consumer Chain is thus effectively secured by the staked tokens on the Provider Chain, providing a portion of its block rewards to stakes of the Provider Chain.
Consumer Chains can consume Cosmos Hub’s Interchain Security in two models:
- Top-N Security – where the Consumer Chain asks the Top N% of Cosmos Hub validators to validate their chain
- Opt-In Security – where the Consumer Chain allow any Cosmos Hub validators to validate their chain (the validator opts-in), but usually sets some criteria about voting power or the number of validators it wants.
Learn more about the two models on our Interchain Security Calculator.
The Atom Economic Zone
The ATOM Economic Zone (AEZ) is an ecosystem of blockchains and dApps that bring direct value to Cosmos Hub.
The core of the AEZ is the ATOM Security Zone, which comprises blockchains and dApps secured by Cosmos Hub’s economic security through Interchain Security.
The Cosmos Ecosystem
Also known as the interchain, this is the ecosystem of over 100 chains that have been built with the Interchain Stack (Cosmos SDK, CometBFT, CosmWasm and IBC Protocol), or are otherwise connected to one-another through the IBC Protocol.
The Cosmos Hub’s initial development teams conceptualized and funded the Interchain Stack, and the Hub continues to be the primary chain that funds public goods within the Cosmos ecosystem.
