The Chain Registry is an interconnected project aimed at simplifying multi-chain development in the Cosmos ecosystem. It serves as a comprehensive data hub, providing APIs, RPC/REST proxies, and a UI to access and manage data from various Cosmos-based chains (through cosmos.directory and api.lavenderfive.com/networks), validators, and public APIs. The standardized repository of chain and asset metadata, facilitates easy node setup, version management and integration for developers. These crucial resources and tools enhance the interoperability and efficiency of blockchain applications in the Cosmos network.
Lavender.Five Is one of the top contributors to the chain-registry and does so without any dedicated funding or grants to pay for this activity. Besides using the chain-registry ourselves we have created the main assets for 10+ chains, approved and discussed the commits of more than 50 collaborators and done 600+ commits ourselves making us the 2nd and 3rd largest contributor only behind Jeremy from Osmosis. Additionally Lavender.Five is a contributor to cosmos.directory and the creator of api.lavenderfive.com/networks and services.lavenderfive.com all of which heavily utilize the chain-registry to create useful data-streams and tooling to developers and validators within cosmos. Large software packages like RLY and Hermes are also reliant on the chain-registry for configuration info.
With the continued growth of the chain-registry it has become harder to dedicate sufficient time to managing its resources without incentives. This is why we look towards the community and generous donors to sponsor this work and continue our effort as well as expand on it.
For any ATOM raised 25% will go to Tom from Eco-Stake for his continued maintenance, building and operation of Cosmos.Directory. With this he can service costs like the hosting, loadbalancing and development of this tooling suite. 10% of the ATOM received will be set aside as bounties for other contributors to the Chain-registry suite for making commits outside of their own mandate (validators/explorers adding their own tools or networks/foundations maintaining their own network jsons). Another 15% of the ATOM will be set aside for potential future collaborators to get a more permanent role in the chain-registry maintenance. The other 50% of the ATOM raised will go to Lavender.Five and will be used for continued maintenance as well as the building of the following additional items where time permits:
- Automated checking of API liveness through Github tools
- Version checking and info growth on all networks through regular checks (ex: https://github.com/cosmos/chain-registry/pull/2900)
- Comprehensive IBC Channel liveness checks through Github Tools
- Gap filling of IBC channel and Network Param data through on-chain queries
- Gas fee validation through on-chain TX issuance and github tools
- Module support list through automated go.mod file checking on Network githubs
And many more such items.
This will also help the Cosmos.directory API and other tooling to become more useful and complete which grows overall usage of this product suite.
