This grant to CryptoCrew will establish and maintain a public archive node for the Cosmos Hub.
The node will provide full access to a verifiable historical state for every block of the network, starting from genesis. It will be an essential tool for developers, researchers, and indexers who require complete historical data for building applications, auditing, and other technical purposes.
Archive nodes are essential for use cases such as auditing, data analysis, and development of tools that depend on historical chain data. They are also relied on by dApps and other integrators to query data about their users’ wallets and transactions.
This node is primarily targeted to support Cosmos Hub developers, key integrators, and dApp partners, giving them reliable and responsive access to Hub’s data. This is a key piece of infrastructure required by the Hub, which has thus far only been available in a fragmented, inconsistent or voluntary manner. This grant is hoping to support innovation and encourage more intensive development, experimentation, and collaboration within our community of key developer partners.
The node will also be instrumental in helping to clear stuck IBC packets. Since this project was first discussed on a Cosmos Hub Developer Call, it has already helped clear packets on the Cosmos Hub<>Sentinal channel, some of which had been stuck for over 18 months!
By granting developers unrestricted access to full historical blockchain data, we will enable the creation of a broader range of decentralized applications (dApps) and tools. Researchers and data analysts will have continuous access to Cosmos Hub’s complete historical data, allowing them to build advanced analytics tools, generate reports, and provide insights into network performance and security – promoting transparency and trust in the network and potentially attracting new users and investors.
While the node will also be exposed to the broader public, it will have a conservative public rate limit of 5 requests per second per client. This will allow developers and users to access the node free of charge while maintaining service stability. For general purpose RPC usage, we recommend members of the public use the service from Lava Network. If you are seeking to download full archive snapshots, please refer to QuickSync.
This grant is for the 10 October 2024 – 9 October 2025 service period. While details of this node will be added to Chain Registry and Cosmos Hub docs, please contact us or CryptoCrew if you need support.
