Grant Spotlight: Building the NOW of Cosmos Hub in Africa With Cosmos Hub Nigeria

Atom Accelerator DAO (AADAO) has always aimed to make an impact on the Cosmos Hub’s expansion worldwide. Through supporting international events, we can make true connections with developers and drive more valuable innovations to the Hub. Via a recent grant to Cosmos Hub Nigeria, we can address the limited Cosmos Hub developer ecosystem in Nigeria, despite the country’s growing tech talent pool.

The goal of this grant is to establish Nigeria as a leading center for Cosmos Hub development through targeted workshops, mentorship, and a hackathon that will train developers and foster the creation of production-ready blockchain applications addressing local market needs. All of which we’ll explain in this blog.

About Cosmos Hub Nigeria & Its Acceleration

Cosmos Hub Nigeria is a community dedicated to fostering the growth and expansion of Interchain, the Hub, and AEZ in Africa. Via this latest initiative, they aim to establish a thriving Cosmos Hub developer ecosystem in Nigeria through workshops, mentorship, and a hackathon program targeting 200+ developers.

Drawing from experience leading Secret Network Africa and organizing and speaking at successful Web3 conferences, workshops, and hackathons, the team will leverage existing relationships with tech hubs ensure meaningful ecosystem growth.

The Cosmos Hub ecosystem currently lacks a strong developer presence in Nigeria, despite the country’s vast tech talent pool and growing blockchain adoption. This represents a missed opportunity to tap into Africa’s largest economy and its innovative developer community.

The absence of structured educational programs, mentorship, and funding specifically focused on Cosmos Hub development in Nigeria limits local developers from contributing to the ecosystem and building solutions that address unique regional challenges like cross-border payments and remittances.

AADAO granted $27,250 to support our initiative in making an impact in Nigeria. AADAO’s support extends beyond just funding through its comprehensive ecosystem integration. Successful projects from the hackathon will have direct access to ATOM Accelerator’s venture program and additional grant opportunities, ensuring sustained development and growth.

Driving New Talent to the Hub

This grant will drive value to Cosmos Hub by creating a robust developer ecosystem in Nigeria, Africa’s largest economy. Through training over 200 developers in Cosmos SDK and IBC protocols, we’ll generate new applications that increase ATOM utility, particularly in critical areas like cross-border payments and DeFi.

The program will establish three sustainable developer communities and produce at least three production-ready projects, expanding Cosmos Hub’s reach into the African market while fostering innovative use cases that leverage AEZ opportunities and strengthen the interchain network.

Key milestones include launching developer communities, pairing participants with experienced mentors, and advancing three promising projects to full development.  Including:

  • Training over 200 developers across key Nigerian tech hubs in Cosmos SDK, IBC, and CosmWasm development

  • Establishing three or more sustainable Cosmos developer communities in major Nigerian tech hubs

  • Generating at least 10 project submissions with 3 advancing to full development

  • Creating market-driven applications addressing local needs such as cross-border payments and DeFi solutions

  • Positioning Nigeria as a leading hub for Cosmos development while increasing ATOM utility through new applications and integrations

This structured support from AADAO will help lay the foundation for a sustainable Cosmos Hub ecosystem in Nigeria while fostering innovation and addressing regional economic needs.

“Having organized, spoken, hosted several successful blockchain workshops, conferences, and hackathons across Africa, I’ve seen firsthand the untapped potential in Nigeria’s developer community. This program will unlock that potential for Cosmos Hub.” – Popeblack, Cosmos Hub Nigeria’s main Contributor.
